MANGO PINEAPPLE TWIST SMOOTHIE
You can throw just about anything in a fruit smoothie to enhance its flavor such as honey, tofu, jams, any combination of fruits, peanut butter, juices, etc., but keep in mind it will affect the nutritional values.
In blender, combine:
1 fresh mango, pitted, peeled and chopped 2 cans (6 oz. each) chilled pineapple juice, and 1 cup ice cubes.
Puree 1 minute. In pitcher, stir together mango-pineapple mixture and 1 cup (12 oz.) lemon-lime soda, like 7-Up, chilled.
Divide the mixture evenly among 6 glasses. Garnish with strawberries and sliced starfruit, if desired.
Fresh pineapple is rich in bromelain, a group of sulfur-containing proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzymes that not only aid digestion, but can effectively reduce inflammation and swelling, and has even been used experimentally as an anti-cancer agent.
